( Sir Michael Hicks-Beach, Mr. Attorney General for Ireland.)
Bill 218 Second Reading
Order for Second Reading read.
Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Bill be now read a second time."—( Sir Michael Hicks-Beach.)
CAPTAIS NOLAN
complained of the manner in which the Bill was being hurried forward, and moved that the second reading should be postponed until his constituents had an opportunity of considering its provisions.
SIR ARTHUR GUINNESS
hoped the Bill would be at once proceeded with, as the works—commenced during the time of the Famine and then abandoned—had since remained a nuisance to the neighbourhood.
Question put.
The House divided:—Ayes 64; Noes 31: Majority 33.
Bill read a second time, and committed for Monday next.
