asked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he will say what action is being taken, or is proposed to be taken, with regard to a memorial presented upwards of a year ago by women typists, superintendents, and others asking to be placed on scale rates of pay?

Established women typists are already on a scale of salary, and I presume the hon. Member refers to a memorial from chief superintendents and superintendents in certain Departments. No action will be taken on this memorial pending the consideration of the Report of the Royal Commission on the Civil Service.

Was the controller of typists recently appointed by the War Office over the heads of many of those experienced placed on the scale of salary?
