asked whether the President of the Board of Education has observed the delay of the Chorley local education authority in providing a council school; whether he is aware that there was a delay of three months before deciding between two possible sites, then a delay in offering a competition for plans, then a delay in deciding who should award the competition prize, then a delay in order not to inconvenience the judge, then a delay in making the award, a further delay in asking the successful architect to entirely revise his plans, and so on, with the result that now, seven months after the date fixed by the Board of Education for the supply of an admitted need of school places, not a single brick is placed of the school which ought to have been finished months ago; and what action he proposed to take?

I have nothing to add to the information I gave to the hon. Member on the 28th April with reference to the provision of a new council school at Chorley.

How long does the right hon. Gentleman intend to be treated in this dilatory and extraordinary manner by a second-rate authority like Chorley?

In this particular instance the plans are now before the Board, and the authority will proceed as soon as those plans have been approved.
