asked the Under-Secretary of State for India on what grounds political prisoners receive different treatment in Indian gaols; whether he is aware that prisoners in a gaol in India who were under sentence for ordinary breaches of the criminal law recently protested against this differential treatment; and what steps have been taken in the matter?

I shall be glad to show my hon. and gallant Friend the report of a debate on this subject in the Council of State in India, which explains the position more thoroughly than would be possible in an answer to a question.
