asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he has now obtained a reply from the Government of India to his communication regarding the possibility of alleviating the burden imposed on Government officials in India by the present high cost of passages to and from India; and what steps are to be taken in the matter?

My Noble Friend has had communications from the Government of India on the subject and correspondence is still proceeding. I regret the delay, but the constitutional question involved is of some complexity. I hope to give the hon. and gallant Member definite information shortly.
