asked the Under-Secretary of State for War what number of headstone orders have been placed by the Imperial War Graves Commission in Scotland and what number in England and Wales; and whether the policy is followed of distributing orders for these memorials throughout the various centres?

The numbers are as follow:

England	785
Scotland	7
Wales	29

In the case of small groups of graves in churchyards and cemeteries in the United Kingdom, contracts for the headstones are placed by competition among selected local firms; in the case of cemeteries in France and Belgium and the larger cemeteries in the United Kingdom, contracts are placed by public tender open to firms throughout the country. Subject to the above and to considerations of price, contracts are distributed as widely as possible.
