I also announced that, in the event of a soldier occupying married quarters (in which case he would also be provided with furniture, fuel, light, water, sanitary services and maintenance of the quarter) the wife's portion of the allowance would be deducted. This practice is followed at Lichfield, as elsewhere.Of the thirty quarters at Lichfield rented by the War Department, 28 are at present occupied by soldiers. Their ranks, and

who occupy the married quarters at Lichfield Barracks which are not in the ownership of his Department; what ranks occupy the accommodation; and what are their respective rates of pay?

In introducing Army Estimates on 10th March last, I announced the establishment of a system of family allowance to be payable to married soldiers.The weekly rates provided are:the current normal daily rates of pay (exclusive of allowances) of those ranks, are as follow:

3Serjeants6s. 0d. to 6s. 6d.
6Corporals or Bom-bardiers4s. 0d. to 5s. 6d.

according to length of service, conduct, and/or degree of proficiency.
