asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will explain the notes to Statutory Rule and Order, 1943, No. 536, and indicate more clearly the effect of, and necessity for, the Order?

This Order amends the Machinery, Plant and Appliances (Control) (No. 3) Order, 1942 (S.R. & O. 1942, No. 2487) and the General Licence (S.R. & O. 1942, No. 2488), which is printed with the No. 3 Order. The amendments are described in the Explanatory Notes. The No. 3 Order prohibited the supply and acquisition of the classes of machinery set out in the schedule thereof, except under licence issued by the Board of Trade. The object of this prohibition is to concentrate manufacturing capacity on direct war work.
