asked the Minister of Labour whether he will now revoke Article 3 of the Control of Engagement Order, 1945, so as to restore freedom to all persons to obtain employment either direct or through any agency they prefer.

No, Sir. Future policy as to labour controls is now under consideration, in view of the end of the war with Japan.

As the White Paper on which the Order was based only purported to be applicable until the defeat of Japan should not this Order be revoked forthwith and the people set free to obtain employment by whatever method they choose?

I shall be making some further reference to this in a statement which I hope to be able to make at the end of Questions.
