asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that quantities of coal can be salvaged from the River Usk; and whether he will arrange to have additional boats, now considered surplus by the Admiralty, available for such purpose by men in Newport, who are hampered in this work by lack of river transport.

I am making inquiries into this matter and will communicate with my hon. Friend as soon as possible.

Would the Minister also make inquiries into the possibility of expanding the salvage of coal in other directions, because, apparently, there are very large quantities available?

The coal may be available, but we have to see that the labour is available.
