asked the Minister of Transport when he expects to be in a position to announce when the restriction on street lighting will be discontinued.

My right hon. Friend is not able at present to say when the restrictions on street lighting can be discontinued, but hopes shortly to be in a position to give further guidance to lighting authorities on this matter. In the meantime my right hon. Friend looks to authorities throughout the country to co-operate with the Government by observing the principles which he has indicated should be followed for the time being.
