Mr. W. Shepherd
asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how much the Central Office of Information or other Departments concerned spent in 1946 on the production and display of posters; and whether he will divide the total to show, respectively, the amount spent on the campaigns to increase production and to restrict present-day private expenditure.
Mr. Glenvil Hall
, pursuant to his answer [OFFICIAL REPORT, 25th March, 1947; Vol. 435, c. 172], supplied the following particulars:The amount spent on poster advertising in 1946 was £582,965. This covers all campaigns. Campaigns expressly to increase production cost £52,000. The National Savings Campaign (the only one solely devoted to restricting private expenditure) cost £112,075.
