asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what are the main items of food now subsidised by the Maltese Government; and what is the estimated total cost during 1948–49 towards which His Majesty's Government may contribute £300,000.

The main items of food and other commodities now subsidised by the Malta Government are wheat and flour, frozen meat, lard and margarine, sugar, kerosene and soap. The estimated total cost during 1948–49 is £740,000.
