Mr. Peter Freeman
asked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that many housewives in Newport are unable to obtain the regular monthly ration of soap, and some have only had one monthly supply this year; and what steps are being taken to ensure its regular availability.
Mr. Strachey
The supplies of soap available to retailers in Newport were increased in January and again in March in order to enable them to carry larger stocks, and because of the increase in population. I have had no complaint of any present shortage, but if my hon. Friend will let me have details of any case of failure to obtain the ration I will gladly look into it.
