asked the Minister of Local Government and Planning if he will take steps to modify the existing anomaly whereby local authorities may raise rents for council houses indefinitely, while, at the same time, properties belonging to private owners are subjected to rigid rent restrictions.

This would require an amendment of the Rent Restrictions Acts.
