Mr. Rankin
asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will make a statement on the imprisonment of Mr. Guy Rozemont, the President of the Trades Union Congress and a member of the Legislative Council in Mauritius.
Mr. Dugdale
On 21st February, 1951, Mr. Rozemont was sentenced by the Supreme Court of Mauritius to six weeks' simple imprisonment for contempt of court for having, at a public meeting, made references to three district magistrates calculated to lower the authority of the courts presided over by them and to bring them into disrepute.
