asked the Minister of Food whether, in view of the fact that the policy of humane slaughter of animals for food has been accepted in this country, he will seek, in the new agreements which are now being considered with the Argentine and elsewhere, to make it a condition that all meat imported as food into this country shall have been killed by this process.

I have every sympathy with the motive behind my hon. Friend's suggestion; but I am afraid that I should not be justified in attempting to interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign States in this way.
