asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in view of the large number of British citizens living for substantial periods on the Riviera at costly hotels, what inquiries are being addressed to them as to the source of foreign currency.

Inquiries are carried out in any case where there is evidence indicating a possible infringement of the Exchange Control Act, 1947.
