asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury if he will give details of those regional organisations of Ministerial Departments which are to be abolished and the functions which they at present perform.

The Ministry of Food's regional offices are to be abolished. Their present main functions are the control of Milk Retailers' Claims offices, the supervision of Ministry warehouses, and defence planning. As from 1st November next the regional offices will be replaced by 13 small offices, primarily concerned with defence planing but also responsible for winding up any work under the first two headings. In addition, as announced on 20th July, the gradual closing of the regional offices of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government is being considered.
