asked the Minister of Labour if he will make a statement on the unemployment position in Dundee in the light of the recent visit of his Parliamentary Secretary to the city.

On 15th May 4,336 workers were registered as unemployed at Dundee and Broughty Ferry, representing a percentage rate of 4ยท8. The main problem arises from the current difficulties in the jute industry. I was impressed by the success of the efforts already made to bring new industry into the area, and these efforts are continuing.
