asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what steps are being taken to end segregation in schools in the High Commission Territories.

There is no segregation in Basutoland schools.

The best method of introducing progressive integration is being examined by the education authorities in Bechuanaland and Swaziland.

While thanking the hon. Gentleman for that reply, may I ask whether he is aware that the education system in the schools of the High Commission Territories has been integrated in the past with the education system of the Union? In view of the new situation, will he ensure that the whole thing is looked at afresh and that there is no sort of impression that the schools in the High Commission Terri- tories are to continue on a basis of educational apartheid?
