75.

asked the Lord Privy Seal what information Her Majesty's Government have with regard to the proposals for the establishment of an international peace corps through United Nations co-operation, to be made by the United States of America at the July meeting of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations; and if he will now instruct the United Kingdom representative to support the proposals in so far as they seek to establish a truly international peace corps.

Our understanding is that the United States are proposing, not the establishment of an international peace corps, but the use by the United Nations and related Agencies of volunteers from the United States Peace Corps and from similar sources in other countries. The question of United Kingdom support for an international peace corps does not therefore arise.
