asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to enable the police to prosecute the owner or tenant of private premises from which undue noise emanates.

Local authorities already have certain powers to deal with this matter and I think that before considering their amendment we should await the Report of the Interdepartmental Committee on the Problem of Noise appointed last year by my noble Friend the Minister for Science.
