asked the Postmaster-General how many applications for telephones are outstanding in Wales; what was the number outstanding a year ago; and what is the average waiting-time.

On 30th September, 1961, 2,543 applications were held up because of shortage of lines or equipment, and 4,954 were under inquiry or in course of being met. A year ago the figures were 2,519 and 5,962 respectively. The average waiting time when plant and equipment are available is about six weeks. The figures I have quoted are for Wales and the Border Counties.
