asked the Minister of Transport when he expects to reach a decision on the line of the South Wales motorway, M.4, through Berkshire; and if he will keep in mind particularly the urgent need for a new route to take traffic past Reading.

Several possible routes for this section of the South Wales Motorway have been surveyed recently. These are now being considered but it will be some time yet before firm proposals for the line can be made. I have very much in mind the need for a new route to take traffic past Reading.
