asked the Minister of Transport why he permitted the hard shoulders on some 2½ miles of the Doncaster by-pass to be surfaced with materials different from those of the other 12½ miles.

On both sections the materials used comply with the standard specification for hard shoulders. Since this ensures a satisfactory contrast in appearance with the carriageways, there was no need, as between the two contracts, to insist on complete uniformity.
