asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many education authorities continue to promote pupils from primary to secondary education on the results of qualifying examinations or calibration tests, and how many have dispensed with such tests.

According to my information formal attainment tests as part of the assessment procedure have been discontinued in two of the 35 education authority areas namely Glasgow and Midlothian, and also in parts of Stirling-shire.
