Firearms Certificates

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many firearms certificates have been granted since 1st July, 1961; and what were the main categories of users to whom these were given.

Hong Kong

John Tsang

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he will publish as a White Paper the relevant documents concerning the subversive activities, arrest, trial, denaturalisation and deportation to Communist China of John Tsang, former Assistant Commissioner of Police in Hong Kong.

I assume the hon. Member is referring to the former Assistant Superintendent of Police, John Tsang.The answer to his Question is "No"

Hospitals

Hospital Beds, Sheffield

asked the Minister of Health by what date there will be sufficient bed capacity within the Sheffield Regional Hospital Board's area satisfactorily to accommodate all the subnormal patients who are in urgent need of hospital treatment.

The number of additional beds in schemes now in progress or due for completion by spring, 1963, approximately equals the number on the urgent waiting list as last known.

Willesden General Hospital

asked the Minister of Health when he expects to reach a decision on the new out-patients' and casualty departments for the Willesden General Hospital.

The regional hospital board will be authorised to invite tenders when the working drawings and bills of quantities, now before me, have been examined and approved.

Central Middlesex Hospital

asked the Minister of Health when he expects to reach a decision on the Central Middlesex Hospital extension scheme for the casualty and dental departments.

I have authorised the regional hospital board to prepare the working drawings and bills of quantities.

Ministry Of Health

Smallpox

asked the Minister of Health if he will state the amount of lymph for vaccination against smallpox imported into this country during the month of January; from what countries these imports originated; and what has been their cost in foreign exchange.

Five hundred thousand doses from Canada and 1,500,000 doses from the United States of America at a cost of about £35,000. I have also gratefully accepted a gift of 1 million doses from the Argentine Government.

Scotland

Productive Woodlands

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the area of productive woodlands under the control of the Forestry Commission in Scotland at 30th September, 1961, and how this compares with the areas in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, respectively.

The areas of the Forestry Commission's productive woodlands at that date were as follows:

The Government of Northern Ireland inform me that the comparable area there is 58,000 acres.All these areas include plantations too young to be producing timber.

Scottish Water Advisory Committee

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in view of the growing use of water for domestic, industrial and agricultural purposes, he will reconstitute the Scottish Water Advisory Committee.

Yes. I have decided to reconstitute this Committee, primarily to advise me on the organisation of water supply and distribution best adapted to meet present and future needs in central Scotland. The members of the new Committee are:
