asked the Secretary of State for Defence, if he will make a statement about the provision of strike aircraft for the Royal Navy and medium/light bomber aircraft for the Royal Air Force.

As I said in reply to the hon. Member for Kingston-upon-Hull, West (Mr. James Johnson) on 3rd November, Buccaneer aircraft are already doing sterling service with the Royal Navy, and aircraft of the Mark II version are now becoming available in increasing numbers. I have no statement to make at present as regards strike/reconnaissance aircraft for the Royal Air Force.
