asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what decision he has reached regarding the experimental one-lane, two-lane road system on the A.8 between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

An interim report on the first three months' operation of this system, submitted by West Lothian County Council as my agent authority, is now being examined. Although the accident figures up to 30th September show no improvement, the period of operation has so far been much too short to enable firm conclusions to be reached, and I intend to continue with the experiment.
