Arran (Ferry Service)

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the dissatisfaction among residents of Arran and visitors to the island with the existing ferry service regarding the seaworthiness of the vessel and of passenger amenity aboard it; what consultation he proposes to have with the Scottish Transport Group on these matters; and what consideration is being given to the provision of a continuing link between the mainland and the island.

The operation of services by the Caledonian Steam Packet Company, and the vessels used, are matters for the Scottish Transport Group. The vessels operate under appropriate certificates of safety which are granted by the Board of Trade.
