asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many appeals were made under the Immigration Appeals Act between 1st July and 31st October, 1970.

During this period the Home Office received 625 appeals under the Immigration Appeals Act, 1969 or the Aliens (Appeals) Order, 1970, of which 285 were against decisions of the Secretary of State and 340 against decisions of entry certificate officers or visa officers; and a further 325 extra-statutory appeals against decisions taken by entry certificate officers before 1st July, 1970. During the same period 52 extra-statutory appeals were brought against decisions of immigration officers.
