asked the Secretary of State for Employment, what contribution his Department is making to the proposed cuts in public expenditure.

In addition to the specific cuts mentioned in my right hon. Friend's statement of 27th October I have found it possible to make a number of economies in the forward estimates of expenditure on the Department's services, offset by increased provision mainly for industrial training, and I am considering what further economies are possible. I have so far identified savings totalling £49 million over the period 1971–72 to 1974–75, including a saving of £34 million on Regional Employment Premium in the latter year. Additional expenditure over the same period will total £13 million. Details of individual economies will be announced as appropriate and after any necessary consultation with those concerned.
