asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is aware that Paraquat spread in concentrated form from aircraft can be a fatal poison; and whether he will take steps to forbid its being spread from the air.

Paraquat has been cleared for safe use under the Pesticides Safety Precautions Scheme. It is not dangerous to people when used in accordance with the instructions agreed under this scheme which are printed on all product containers; and spraying Paraquat from the air has caused no deaths or injuries in the United Kingdom. Our scientific advisers are currently reviewing the suitability of all chemicals, including Paraquat, for aerial spraying operations.
