Mr. Dodds-Parker
asked the Secretary of State for the Environment at how many sites on trunk roads crawler lanes have been constructed, as distinct from using part of a previously existing carriageway, and what is their approximate total length.
Mr. Graham Page
It is our policy to provide where practicable a crawler lane on long hills on trunk roads either by utilising a lane of the existing carriageway or by constructing another lane but information is not readily available upon the number of sites at which the latter method has been adopted and to obtain it would entail disproportionate time and effort.
