asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the increase in the Retail Price Index since 16th June.

The General Index of Retail Prices rose by 2·2 per cent. between 16th June 1970 and 20th October 1970, the latest date for which the index is available.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the effect of grocery price rises on the Retail Price Index since 18th June.

Increases in the prices of groceries, which have been taken as all foods other than meat and bacon, fish, fresh milk, fresh vegetables and fruit, sweets and chocolate and ice cream, caused a rise of about 0·5 in the General Index of Retail Prices between 16th June 1970 and 20th October, 1970, the latest date for which this index is available.
