asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a further statement on the building of a prototype nuclear-propelled merchant vessel.

I am arranging for publication of the report of the study by the Department which suggests that a Government nuclear ship project would not be economically justifiable at present. In the light of this, I do not think that it would be right at this stage to commit sizeable natural resources to this project.
