asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proposals he has for the improvement of the A648 road between Clifton and the M1 motorway in Nottinghamshire, in view of the large number of serious and fatal road accidents which have taken place on it.

This six miles of road was constructed as a new principal road and opened in 1967. Nottinghamshire County Council, the highway authority, proposed a scheme for dualling the road last year but it did not have sufficient priority to be placed in the inter urban principal road preparation list. It is for the county council to resubmit the scheme for further consideration.
