asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will state the amount of lost coal sales since the publication of the 1967 White Paper on fuel policy, and the current trends on the demand for coal.

Since 1968 demand for coal has exceeded output and the N.C.B. have been able to meet demand only by drawing on stocks. The N.C.B. expect that demand will continue to exceed production next year.
