asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what has been the total cost to date to public funds of supplementary benefits paid to the families of persons involved in the Scottish bakery workers' strike; and what has been the average payment per family to date.

Supplementary benefit payments to the families of men involved totalled (provisionally) £1,568 to 1st December. The average payment has been £6 per week.
