Fishermen (Deaths By Drowning)

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many deaths by drowning or as a result of injuries received at sea, occurred to fishermen normally resident within the county of Banff in each of the past five years to the nearest convenient date.

, pursuant to the reply, [OFFICIAL REPORT, 24th November, 1970; Vol. 807, c. 93], gave the following information:

Notes:

( a) The figures shown in the "Died of Injuries" columns are those of deaths which occurred on board and were subsequently reported to the Registrar-General of Shipping and Seamen. Figures for deaths on shore from injuries sustained on board are not available.

( b)"Drowning" includes:—

  • (i) Vessels lost and crew missing.
  • (ii) Missing at sea, presumed killed or drowned.
  • (iii) Jumped overboard (suicide).
  • (iv) Washed overboard and drowned.
  • (v) Fell overboard and drowned.
