asked the Secretary of State for Wales how much will be spent on all roads in Wales from central and local funds in each year from 1970–71 to 1974–75, and how this differs from the previous projection; and if he will give a breakdown of the figures on a county basis.
The projected level of expenditure on highways—excluding lighting—in the years 1970–71, 1971–72 and 1974–75 is £37·7 million, £40·9 million, and £51·5 million respectively. There is no change in the year 1970–71. The figure for 1971–72 reflects a cut of £0·3 million on principal road improvements while the figure for 1974–75 reflects cuts of £0·3 million on principal road improvements and £0·4 million on the improvement of other local authority roads. It is not possible to give a breakdown by counties. The level of expenditure in the years 1972–73 and 1973–74 will be covered in a future White Paper.
