Mr. Wilkinson
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will consult chief constables with a view to the establishment of rescue helicopters at strategic points along motorways to facilitate the evacuation of casualties, particularly in cases of multiple accidents.
Mr. Sharples
The Home Office has considered, with chief officers of police, the circumstances in which helicopters might be employed for police purposes. I doubt whether it would be right to use them in the manner suggested by my hon. Friend.
