asked the Minister for the Civil Service (1) if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a table showing the increases or decreases in the number of civil servants employed by each Department of State that have taken place since 18th June, 1970;(2) what is the present strength of the Civil Service; and what it was on 18th June, 1970;(3) how the present number of non-industrial civil servants compares with the planned ceiling for April, 1971, as announced in April, 1970.
The non-industrial staff in-post figure for 1st November, 1970, was 500,040. This is some 4,000 above the corresponding figure for 1st July, 1970, but over 5,000 below the planned ceiling of 505,300 for 1st April, 1971, referred to. The following table sets the position out in detail:
