asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what representations he has received from the Consumers' Association regarding the withdrawal of Government financial assistance to the Consumer Council; and what reply he has given.

I have met representatives of the Consumers' Association and they have given me their views on the Government's decision and its likely effects. I explained the reasons for the Government's decision.
