asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if, in view of the forthcoming increase of 10,000 by February next in the existing number of unemployed in Scotland, he will state what plans he has for dealing with this problem.

The Government's economic and industrial policies are directed towards achieving greater efficiency, thus leading to the creation of more employment opportunities in Scotland and elsewhere.
