asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the maximum noise level permitted from aircraft taking off in an easterly direction from London Airport; and what, in not less than four groupings, was the distribution of noise levels for the 536 infringements recorded in August, 1970.

The maximum permitted noise levels are 110 PNdB by day and 102 PNdB by night. Revised figures for August show 539 infringements which break down between noise levels as follows:—

Day:
111–112 PNdB61
113–116 PNdB283
Over 116 PNdB168
Night:
103–104 PNdB7
105–108 PNdB10
Over 108 PNdB10
