Mr. Arthur Lewis
asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will state the first date and the number of occasions when his Department were requested to investigate the affairs of the Fire Auto and Marine Insurance Company Limited; and why he did not appoint inspectors to investigate this Company's affairs.
No such representations or requests were made which would have enabled the appointment of inspectors to investigate the affairs of the Fire Auto and Marine Insurance Company Ltd. under the legislation then in force. Inquiries were made of the Company based in part on reports reaching the Department about it. The decision whether or not to appoint inspectors was one for the Administration of that time.
