asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, in view of the fact that not all universities have been able to obtain copies of Command Paper No. 4814, if she will extend the date by which the scientific community has been invited to make submissions.

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether, in view of the limited time available for representations on behalf of those concerned in medical research, she will extend the time limit for written comment on the Rothschild recommendations beyond 14th January, 1972, and postpone the completion of discussions with interested bodies beyond 29th February, 1972; and why these time limits were imposed.

I understand that because of unexpectedly heavy demand copies of Cmnd. 4814 were not available between 25th November and 3rd December but are now obtainable from Her Majesty's Stationery Office. In response to views which have been expressed about the timetable of consultations, particularly in view of the Christmas period, the Government have decided to extend by one month the dates set out in the Green Paper. The purpose of this is to allow time especially for discussions following the submission of comments.
