The majority of this mileage is dual three-lane and forms part of a total of 652 miles of this standard in use at 31st December, 1971.Present plans envisage the completion of a further 500 miles of dual three-lane motorways in the five years 1972–76 inclusive. The phasing of this programme of motorway construction will depend on the satisfactory preparation of detailed plans and the duration of the necessary statutory procedures.
